Elephantech Inc. ("Elephantech") is pleased to announce that the company is opening a new R&D center in Shinkiba, Tokyo. By conducting research and development on ink materials through to inkjet printing equipment, the Shinkiba R&D Center will accelerate the advancements in environmentally friendly inkjet manufacturing and its widespread adoption in our society.

Elephantech has succeeded at mass-producing flexible PCBs utilizing inkjet metal printing technologies and electroless copper plating, and the company’s market penetration has been boosted by the method’s advantages in exceptional environmental friendliness and cost-effectiveness.

Although the fact that this innovative manufacturing method has overcome the barriers of mass production and has been gaining market adoption is in itself a major scientific advancement, the method has yet to dominate the market as its performance still lags behind existing technologies in certain areas such as miniaturization and multi-layering. Conversely, this also means that Elephantech is in a position where it can replace a larger percentage of the market as the performance improves through further research and development.

Against this background, Elephantech is opening the new Shinkiba R&D Center to conduct research and development overseeing all aspects from materials to equipment and expedite the company’s technological innovation. The two-story building has a total floor area of 578 ㎡, and a clean room has been set up on the first floor for equipment development centered around inkjet printing while the second floor will be used for material evaluation and development centered around inks and surface treatment. Through integrated and unhindered research on the whole process from materials to equipment, Elephantech will aim for an environment in which processes can be developed in a wasteless manner.

In addition, Elephantech is newly recruiting researchers and developers from a wide range of fields such as chemical, mechanical, electrical and software. As the only company in the world to have realized electronic circuit manufacturing utilizing inkjet metal printing technologies and electroless copper plating (*), Elephantech will create an environment in which researchers and developers can fulfil their potential and continue to lead the world with cutting edge research and development in the field of electronic circuit manufacturing.
